All these modifications have been envisaged to enhance the efficiency of the student visa application and also to the students as well as the institutions in Australia.

Study in Australia for Indian students: Visa updates

Spreading the news in the latest update the government of Australia is working to streamline the student visa system by merging multiple subclasses of student visas into a single student visa. This consolidated visa is likely to have multiple streams for various types of visa such as for higher education, vocational education and training sector students, student guardian visas, and others.

Another significant development is the adoption of a Points-based Visa Allocation System, an innovation recommended by the best practices of the countries. Indian students applying for study visas will be ranked according to their financial status, English fluency, type of education, and working experience among others; they will then be given certain scores and be granted more study rights in the UK after their study upon meeting a certain score.

These changes are aimed at the quality improvement of Indian students who will study in Australia. It will be most helpful for those, who scored high in English, have enough money to pay for it, and have an education. It also prioritizes the students pursuing the courses that can help curb some of the major shortcomings of the Australian human capital such as health, information technology, and renewable energy, among others, this is beneficial to the Indian STEM students.

For students however, the Australian government has also indicated its intention to increase the post-study work rights eligibility period after the completion of a course across several visa categories. At the moment, students from overseas are allowed to seek employment permits for work visas within six months of completing their course. This may now take 2–4 years for some disciplines out of the assumption that students are able to learn effectively for such a lengthy period.

These reforms are expected to be initiated when the Australian parliament passes them and are likely to be implemented starting in early 2023. The Morrison government through new visa policies would make studying in Australia very challenging for the Indian students. Knowing about subjects that cater to local employment needs and improving their English examination results from now on would prove beneficial to their visa grants.

All in all, the transformations declared seem to target quality Indian students who, in turn, will be beneficial to the Australian economy now and in the future. Students should consult education consultants so that they adapt their profile according to the new visa criteria.
